The decanter approach outperforms membrane filtration, which blinds quickly on algae, and centrifugation in tubular machines, which requires frequent manual cleaning. Culture is pumped continuously into the bowl, and the 2710 g force sediments the cells against the wall while the screw conveyor delivers the paste out of the machine. The clarified water, depleted of algae, can be recycled to the cultivation ponds with nutrients replenished.
